What to Pack for a Tropical Island Holiday

Light layers, sun protection and a few small things that make a big difference — a practical packing list for island life.

Clothes that breathe

Pack loose linen and cotton, a couple of swimsuits so one can dry, a light long-sleeved layer for sun and evening breezes, and a sarong — it’s a towel, a cover-up and, at many temples, a requirement.

Sun and sea protection

Bring reef-safe sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat, polarised sunglasses and a rash vest for long snorkels. Insect repellent is worth packing for evenings and garden walks.

Small things that matter

  • A dry bag for boat trips
  • Reef shoes or sandals with grip
  • A refillable water bottle
  • A small first-aid kit with plasters and after-sun
  • A universal travel adapter

Leave room for the market

Pack light and you’ll have space for woven baskets, local coffee and the things you’ll actually want to bring home.
