A Guide to Slow Mornings by the Ocean

Wake with the light

In the tropics the morning is cool, the water is often at its calmest and the beaches are almost empty. Leave the curtains open and let the sunrise be your alarm.

Swim first, coffee second

A short swim before breakfast resets the whole day. Keep a towel on the terrace so it’s the easiest thing in the world to do.

A breakfast worth lingering over

Local fruit, good bread, eggs and strong coffee — eaten outside, slowly. Buy fruit from a market the day you arrive and you’ll have the simplest, best breakfast of the year.

Leave the phone indoors

Try one hour without notifications. Read, watch the water, listen. You’ll notice the birds, the tide, the change in the light.
